Kristin is 25-years-old and a mom to a 7-yearold son. Kristin did not have an easy childhood. Among her struggles included being raised by parents who were addicts, as well as being sexually abused as a young child. Kristin continued to struggle throughout her childhood and young adulthood, getting pregnant at an early age, and struggling with mental health, substance use, and homelessness.
Kristin and her son first came to NUMAS Haus in June of 2020, however, she was again struggling with substance use and it was agreed that treatment would be a better option for her. Kristin’s son went into voluntary foster care while she worked on getting healthy again for herself and her child.
After graduating from treatment, Kristin was able to come back to NUMAS Haus in December of 2020. Her main goal was to regain custody of her son, as well as find housing and maintain her sobriety. Kristin worked hard to pick up the pieces of her life that had fallen apart. She is determined to be the parent to her son that she never had. Kristin utilized many services and supports while at NUMAS Haus including outpatient treatment, support groups, parenting skills, and therapy for her mental health.
After a little over 3 months at NUMAS Haus, Kristin was able to move into her own apartment with her son. She has regained custody of her son, and continues to work hard on improving her mental health and maintaining her sobriety. Kristin has also started working for the first time in many years!
Although Kristin has come a long way, she still has a long road of recovery ahead of her. Kristin continues to meet with NUMAS Haus weekly, working on goals such as sobriety, employment, budgeting, parenting, and so much more. Kristin states she is “thankful for NUMAS Haus and the independence and life skills that I have gained.”
